Anime, a popular style of Japanese animated entertainment, has a long and fascinating history that date backs to the early 20th century. In this blog, we will explore the origins of anime and how it has evolved over the years.  

Katsudo Shashin

The early beginnings of of anime can be traced back to the early 1900s when Japanese filmmakers were experimenting with animation techniques. The first Animated film in Japan, "Katsudo Shashin", was created by the Japanese pioneer of animations, Shimokawa Oten in 1907. it was a short film featured that featured a boy writing the Japanese character for "moving pictures" on a board, which then came to life and started moving. 


Over the next few decades, anime continued to evolve and gain popularity in Japan. The 1930s saw the rise of the first talkie anime film, "Chikara to Onna no Yo Naka," which was directed by Kenzo Masaoka. During the World War 2, the Japanese government used anime as a propaganda tool, producing films that promoted militarism and nationalism.

In the Post War years, anime began to take on a more lighthearted and entertaining tone. In the 1950s and 60s, anime series such as "Astro Boy" and "Gigantor" became popular in Japan and around the world. These shows which were aimed at children, featured futuristic themes and advanced technology.




The 1970s saw the emergence of a new genre of anime known as "Mecha" anime. These shows featured giant robots and often explored themes of war and conflict. Popular mecha anime from this era included "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Space Battleship Yamato".



In the 1980s and 90s, anime continued to gain popularity and expand into new genres. Shows like "Dragon Ball" and "Sailor Moon" introduced a new generation to anime, while shows like "Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell" explored more mature and complex themes. 

Today, anime is a global phenomenon, with millions of fans around the world. It encompasses the wide range of genres, from action and adventure to romance and slice-of-life, and continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in animation. 

In conclusion, anime has a rich and fascinating history that dates back over a century. From its humble beginnings in the early 1900s to its current status as a global entertainment powerhouse, anime has come a long way and has a bright future ahead.
